The Red Pip

This is the Red Pip. He is going to live in California. I am working on an army of little Pip minions to help me take over the world. I figure having one stationed on the west coast is a good start.

Booty and the Beast

Razmataz- The cutest felty squirrel yet made especially for Dale for Christmas!
My favorite dingo got a new coat. I discovered that being awakened by a goofy dog licking your face is a cheerful way to start the day.
Bloom tea for mum. This stuff is rolled and tied by tea artisans and the little pellets blossom into these when dropped into hot water. You will never be satisfied with Lipton again after watching one of these beauties steep.

Coffee, Tea, or Bunny?

I have been terribly busy and have neglected my blogging. I decided I was really going to try to make a go of things with Etsy, remember? So I have been dedicating a lot of time to that. Part of it is that keeping myself so utterly busy and focused on being "le artiste" I don't sit around thinking about other things which aren't going great. After making such an effort and not really having much change in traffic at my shop or any sales things started picking up and I have sold three little felties in the last three days! It happened just in time to keep me on track and motivated to go, go, go! So here is my newest little guy, a bookish bunny with a big cup of tea. Or maybe it's a latte. He hasn't told me. (It was really fun making that little cup!) So ta ta for now. I will return hopefully with more interesting tales.

Got My Head Straight

I couldn't get a good picture of her at night so I got a strange one instead. She's about twice the size of my other dolls. Her hair is locks of curly mohair which I love working with. In other news I put on my thinking cap and slapped that hat pattern into submission and it seems to be working out fine with some math adjustments.

Little Big Eyes and the Holey Hat

I have been spending a LOT of time online lately trying to promote my art/craft stuff and make some contacts. One thing that is always interesting to me is that when people see my felted animals and dolls they always say how happy and cute and sweet they are. I myself am not always the happiest person all the time. Strangely though, even though I have set out to make some kind of creepy things most of them are pretty much just cute if a bit strange. So the past week I've been through the wringer. Today I decided I would treat myself and went to the yarn store (the fancy pants one) and got myself some Manos del Uruguay that I have been coveting for a few months. I have been thinking that I needed a new hat and found this cute pattern that for some reason reminded me of a beehive. I also went and bought myself flowers. You can probably guess by now that part of my discontent has to do with a boy, right? So I settled in this evening and got out my luscious Manos rolled up into those little cake shapes that come off the ball winder and got down to business. The hat starts at the crown and increases out and down. It starts with 12 stitches. 12 is a lot for a little circle at the top. There's a hole about the size of a silver dollar in the top of my hat. I checked the corrections on the website and there aren't any mentioned. So for now not being able to handle the math involved in recalculating the number I need to add in with all the increases etc. in my current battered state I have cast aside my much anticipated project. And I went back to work. On my newest doll. It was time for me to do her hair and face which is one of the best parts. Even in my crappy mood I didn't give her a scowl or any tears. She's a happy bug eyed little gal with a wry grin. So I guess a part of me is always happy and cute and sweet. I just sometimes lose sight of that.

Bye Bye Betty

I won't lie. I haven't sold anything in a while on Etsy. It seems that a lot of people have been in a slump there. So I have been thinking of diversifying, taking all my eggs out of that one proverbial basket if you will. I had listed one of my felties on Ebay before with no results. I have spied on conversations on Etsy about "EvilBay" and how you have to be willing to sell for dirt cheap and how handmade things just don't sell there. But then I stumbled on the site of a woman who makes miniatures and sells them for decent prices on Ebay. So I decided to give it a go again. Little Betty Bento has gotten far less adoration than I feel she deserves being so very adorable and all so I chose her. I revised her listing a couple of times, watched her carefully, crossed my fingers. Nada. Then last night on the last day of the auction she got a bid and had two people "watching" her. I had set a minimum price because I didn't want to accept like $5 for her but it was still low. And that's what I got. Half of what I would have gotten on Etsy. But lately things just aren't moving on Etsy. So I guess it's the slow dime-fast nickel thing. I just feel kind of like a sell out for taking half price for something I worked so hard on. At least one more person will have one of my little felted minions in their house and maybe spread the love. I'm not sure whether I will do it again though.
