Tick Tick Tick Me Off
I am definitely not someone who denies the existence of global warming. I agree that some major changes have to be made to curtail the damage we are doing to the environment or eventually down the line it’s going to come back and bite us on the ass. I am, however, irritated that politicos and lobbyists are running commercials using children to try to get everyone involved in facing this issue. The “Tick” commercial that has been running as a PSA lately makes me mad. I think that it is important to educate children about protecting the environment and their responsibilities but I do not think it is right to use children as an advertising tool. I especially do not like it that a lot of children seem to be afraid that within their lifetimes they will see mass destruction, devastation, and horror because of global warming. Children are supposed to worry about who they play with at recess and whether they are going to have to eat spinach at dinner, not that the earth is spiraling towards disaster. If we are going to get them all worked up about something how about something that they can actually control right now like childhood obesity or violence in schools? It just seems unfair to me to put this issue in the laps of the under 15 set.
