Now ladies and gentlemen, Tanga will lead you on a brief tour of some basic fibers which were provided for your viewing pleasure by our dear friend Kay. These are all unspun which means that the fibers have yet to be turned into yarn or felted into something, etc. Left to right are: Silk- everyone knows what silk is, right? It comes out of a worm. This feels like you got in a girl fight with an angel and ripped out a chunk of her hair. Maroon/pink- mohair and silk blend. I will explain mohair in a moment. Second from right- Flax- Very strange stuff. It comes from a plant and feels kind of like dandilion fluff or something. This is what linen clothes are made of. You can also get paper made of linen and this also kind of feels somewhat woody in an odd way. And last, my personal favorite, mohair. Mohair does not come from the elusive mo my friends despite what you might have heard. And despite the fact that it often makes me itch and can be a pain to deal with as fluffy stray bits drift up your nose I am still proud to be a Mo Ho. So, for my fiber friends that was probably a bit tedious. For the rest of you, go for in the world with new knowledge of what your clothes started out as.
As a footnote: The reason I have these bits of golden fleece is for monster hair. I do not spin as of yet. Next up for me is learning to weave. If I decide to pick up spinning too I am going to have to pitch a tent in the front yard to keep some of my art/craft supplies in and buy stock in Red Bull because there are just not enough hours in the day. Speaking of which, it is nearly time for bed.
